An Education in Hydroponics

Education is one of PowerHouse Hydroponics’ core values. We believe that in order to grow, continued educated through various experiences is essential.

Whether you’re a hobby grower, want to grow a business, are interested in resourceful ways to feed your community or family, or are perhaps just looking for a lifestyle shift, you’ll certainly benefit from an education in hydroponics. Even existing hydroponic growers take courses and training to help develop the skills needed to take their projects further. Though the level of technology used varies, the discipline of growing food requires the use of mechanical systems to ensure quality and healthy produce.

Hydroponic Growing Certification

There are many avenues by which to obtain certification and general education in hydroponic and aquaponic agriculture. One prime example of a successful, education-based hydroponics farm is Boswyck Farms. For anyone interested in becoming a hydroponic grower, they’re offering an upcoming Hydroponic Certification Course. This course is an exciting opportunity to learn everything you need in order to grow: from the history of hydroponics, to system design and construction and even basic horticulture.

Boswyck Farms is a hydroponics research, development and education company based in Queens, New York. Boswyck uses hydroponics to share the art of urban farming with those who want better access to fresh, healthy produce. Working with students, social service providers, and community-based organizations, they build scalable farms and foster hands-on education in agriculture and natural science.

Cost-Effective Solutions

In a typical urban setting, many individuals don’t get the schooling or institutional support they would need to begin taking their own initiative and growing their own food hydroponically. In fact, many don’t know that there’s even such a thing as “hydroponics,” and that it could provide a healthy, sustainable, and cost-efficient way to bring fresh food to the table.

Education is paramount to this dilemma, and grassroots urban agriculture organizations are at the core of the solution. What’s more, hydroponic farms lend themselves to be easily scaled, meaning that they can be built to any size or proportions that can meet one’s needs. A hydroponic farm can be built using as little space as an apartment balcony!

The video below features Boswyck Farms’ Founder and Chief Hydroponicist, Lee Mandell, talking about the benefits of hydroponics education and certification with Henry Gordon-Smith, Founder of Agritecture. The course is a hands-on, active week of hydroponics fun!

Local Training

In the hydroponics world, we don’t necessarily want to farm for you – we want to teach you how to farm, either for yourself or as part of a business. Given that hydroponics is somewhat of a scarce discipline, often it can be difficult to find good quality educational courses, especially in areas like New York City. Out of commitment to filling that gap in the most engaging and exciting ways possible, hydroponic certification courses are born.

Educational organizations in the hydroponics field effectively serve the local community by providing valuable insight and training for all individuals, from the average citizen to well-established farmers. They help individuals who may not know where to begin to integrate hydroponics into their lives or businesses, as well as those who’ve tried hydroponics but aren’t sure how to develop or enhance their projects further.

Moreover, operations manuals and growing guides, like the one shown in the video, greatly facilitate the learning process by laying out, step by step, model designs of some great hydroponic farm systems.

All of the material taught in these courses is knowledge that has been gained while creating projects for hydroponics organizations and their clients. Boswyck Farms works with a wide variety of clients in the New York City area, from schools and social service providers to city agencies and private growers.

Based on what’s known through proven experience, you’ll learn to troubleshoot errors, manage pests, and avoid problems – along with all of the glories of setting up a thriving hydroponic farm. Click here to reach the direct course webpage. We can’t recommend this course enough for hydroponic farmers at the intro, basic, and even intermediate levels.

You’ll leave the course with all of the knowledge you need to start a hydroponics project from the ground up. Whether you want to grow at home for your family, start a hydroponics business within your community, or support local community outreach, certification courses such as those taught at Boswyck Farms teach you how to plan, build, and maintain a wonderful farm project. They can also assist with the basics of botany and horticulture, crop planning and rotation, and even some information about nutrition.

We can’t wait to grow with you!
